Founded in 2007, Olivier Bernstein works as a small Burgundy négociant with a focus on old-vine parcels and careful élevage. Les Champeaux is a Gevrey-Chambertin premier cru on the northern side of the village, near the Brochon border, and is one of the more site-specific bottlings in Bernstein's Côte de Nuits lineup.

Wine Spectator
“Smoky oak is well-integrated into bright black cherry, black currant and mineral flavors, backed by firm, resonant tannins. Fresh and linear, with a long, fruit- and spice-tinged aftertaste. Should reward patience. (BS)” (11/2017)

“A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its fresh and cooler dark berry fruit scents that are liberally sprinkled with notes of wild flower and the sauvage. There is better delineation and energy to the more obviously mineral-driven flavors that deliver fine punch on the balanced and youthfully austere finale.” (01/2017)

Jasper Morris
“Dense purple with lighter rim. Concentrated nose, rather spicy, perhaps a hint of reduction. A fair amount of barrel structure which slightly dries the finish, but I expect the fruit to win here. There is a dark fruited succulence too.” (09/2018)

Vinous
“Bright dark red. Musky scents of candied raspberry and pomegranate show superb energy along with a liqueur-like ripeness. Silky-sweet and highly concentrated; a bit darker in the mouth than on the nose, offering berry, dark cherry and spicy oak flavors. Can't quite match the young 2016 for class, as this wine gives an impression of faster ripeness. Finishes a bit aggressive but with good mineral energy and medicinal reserve. Bernstein's 2015s are slightly higher in pH than his '16s. (ST)” (11/2017)

“This has been from his own vines since 2012. Dark crimson. A bit reduced. Lighter than one would expect on the palate. Very racy indeed! Possibly too much whole bunch? Looking for freshness and delicacy now, he says. But I’d say it still has to take on a bit more flesh. (JR)” (11/2016)
