From the winery: "Coyote Ridge Vineyard is sited at 900 feet in elevation and composed of red clay and shattered basalt rock. The vineyard’s name comes from a fondness for a family of coyotes who protect the vines from burrowing pests. 2012 Checkerboard Coyote Ridge offers aromas of dark blackberry, ripe Bing cherry and holiday baking spices. These flavors are joined by nuances of damp earth, plums and the minerality of our hillside to create a harmonious and seamless wine. In its youth, the vintage will benefit from decanting.”
