2001 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (99RP, 95VN). Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2001 Cariad is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, primarily from two of David Abreu’s vineyard holdings in Napa Valley (Madrona Ranch and Thorevilos). Complex notes of burning embers, charcoal, red and black fruits, subtle oak, licorice and cedarwood soar from the glass of this highly perfumed, stunning wine. It has everything going for it, including a flawless, seamless style, remarkable balance, stunning concentration and a finish that lasts nearly a minute. There is an open-knit character that makes it very accessible even though the wine still gives the impression of being a teenager in its developmental time-line. (RP)" (06/2011)

Vinous

The 2001 Cariad boasts magnificent aromatic presence and tons of power. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, leather, dried herbs and scorched earth give the 2001 its brooding profile. During this era Cariad was much more Merlot-based than it is today. (AG) (04/2023)
