2015 Favia "Coombsville" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2015 Favia "Coombsville" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98JD, 94RP, 94VN, 94WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Another thrilling 2015 from winemaker Andy Erickson is the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, which comes from vines not far from the estate. It has classic cool climate notes of blue fruits, violet, chocolate, and green tobacco. These all flow to a deep, concentrated, yet finesse-driven wine that has fine tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and a huge finish. It shows the classic Coombsville complexity, purity, and freshness, and will keep for 2-3 decades. (JD) 98+" (01/2019)

Antonio Galloni writes for Vinous: "Andy Erickson and Annie Favia recently acquired a historic property in Coombsville that was first planted in 1872 by the Carbone family. Erickson and Favia painstakingly refurbished the old, historic cellar, which is now home to the Favia wines. The property itself harkens back a time in Napa Valley's history when grapes were farmed alongside other crops. As for the wines, they are superb. Favia sources from top sites in Coombsville and Oakville for these sumptuous, impeccably balanced wines." (11/2017)

The Wine Palate

Deep garnet in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville skips out with eager-to-please notes of juicy black cherries, wild blueberries, and redcurrant jelly giving way to wafts of dried rose, anise, and graphite. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound with intense red and black berry layers, supported by firm grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and savory. (LPB) (05/2026)

95

Vinous

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville opens with strong floral and savory notes that are so typical of Coombsville. Cedar, pipe tobacco, dried herbs, mint, juniper berry and graphite are all beautifully delineated. This sensual, highly expressive Cabernet Sauvignon will drink well for another handful of years, maybe more. (AG) (11/2025)

Wine Advocate

Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville gives up scents of cassis, blackberries and black cherries with hints of bouquet garni, pencil lead, garrigue and iron ore with a waft of black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it has a rock-solid backbone of grainy tannins and great freshness with layers of savory flavors and a long, mineral-tinged finish. (LPB) 94+ (12/2018)

Wine Spectator

Dark and ripe, but focused, with light charcoal threads adding contrast to the steeped plum, fig and blackberry fruit flavors. Reveals an alluring smoldering feel on the finish. (JM) (03/2019)
