It's extremely rare that we have Old Forester Single Cask. K&L has a track record of selecting some of the best Old Forester barrels on the market. This incredible distillery outside of Louisville has so much history, but few are aware of its importance because they do not offer public tours. The wonderful Old Forester brand is one of the country's oldest but remains seemingly unknown by many. The old plant features the best traditional technology from onsite souring tubs (ala Four Roses) to the continued use of the "thumper" very few distillers are as committed to tradition. Then add the use of patent steam heated warehouses built decades ago and you've got a recipe for one of the best bourbons in the world. This barrel is incredibly delicious and was barreled on January 8th 2020. Bottled on August 9th, at exactly 4.5 years old. It spent just under half a decade in warehouse 1 on the 2nd floor, yet likely saw 8-10 seasons due to the steam heating cycles in these warehouses. The resulting full of rich ester-y Old Forester character and plenty of dense barrel spice. For anyone who knows K&L's Old Forester picks, this is right in line with the style we like. An excellent barrel and a welcome surprise to have around during the holidays.
