The first release in Found North’s High Altitude Collection, Goldfinch “First Flight” represents an elegant evolution of the brand’s blending philosophy. Built from a base of mature Canadian grain whiskies (91% corn, 8% rye, and 1% malted barley) aged between 15 and 22 years in both new wood and ex-bourbon, the blend was designed from the start for its cask regimen. Two thirds were finished in Sauternes barriques, layering bright citrus, apricot, and honey over the supple corn core. The remainder was split between Cognac casks, which bring orchard fruit and gentle spice, and Kelvin coopered air-dried American oak barrels that add texture, vanilla, and caramel depth. The result is a remarkably creamy and fruit-forward whisky that balances richness with lift, showing the interplay of French sweetness and American oak structure at full natural strength. Bottled at 58.1% ABV, Goldfinch is an opulent, seamless dram that highlights Found North’s precision blending and patient maturation, offering both exuberance and finesse in perfect harmony.
