2022 Aubert "Powder House" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2022 Aubert "Powder House" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay ((96-98TWI), 97RP, 97WS, 96JS, 96VN). The Wine Independent: "The 2022 Powder House Chardonnay, tasted as a barrel sample, is a bit shy to begin, needing a little shaking to wake up notes of tarte au citron, lime cordial, peach preserves, and baking bread, plus hints of wet slate and sea spray. The full-bodied palate is tense and intense, featuring a crisp backbone to define the citrus and mineral layers, finishing on a lingering marzipan note. This estate vineyard, on Goldridge soils near downtown Forestville, was planted in 2013. There are basically 2 clones, Hyde and Mt Eden, on 420 A & 114 rootstocks, and the row direction is due north. (LPB) 96-98+ " (09/2023)

Wine Advocate

The Powder House site is on Goldridge soils, planted in 2013. The tightly spaced Hyde Old Wente and Mount Eden selections have been dry farmed the past few years, according to Aubert. The 2022 Chardonnay Powder House features attractive notions of crushed stone, citrus oil, hints of tea and perhaps even bergamot. Medium to full-bodied, with great thrust and energy, this is zesty, clean and crisp, with terrific length. (JC) (07/2024)

Wine Spectator

There's terrific tension to this white, with powerful, generous flavors and an elegant, wonderfully open-knit texture. Peach cobbler, candied orange peel, clementine and mango flavors are at the core, while details of clove and cinnamon honey, along with toasted brioche with a dab of salted butter, complete the picture on a juicy and creamy frame. Drink now through 2037. (MW) (12/2024)

James Suckling

Aromas of candied lemons, crushed stone and sage with some cream. So gorgeous. Full bodied, with density, depth and a crunchy character. Complex and thoughtful, with an electric finish of lemon zest and dried apples. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold. (06/2024)

Vinous

The 2022 Chardonnay Powder House is a seamless, elegant wine. All the elements are so well put together. Lifted aromatics open first. Bright citrus fruit, dried flowers, chalk and crushed rocks follow in a Chardonnay that impresses with its sublime balance. The long, persistent finish is a thing of beauty, (AG) (05/2024)
