Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 Arietta "H Block - Hudson Vineyard" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (96JD, 96RP, 95JS, 95VN, 95WE, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "Composed of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot, the 2016 Proprietary Red H Block is deep purple-black in color and a little youthfully shy to begin, unfurling to reveal stunning blackberries, black raspberries, kirsch and cassis scents with touches of cigar box and underbrush. The full-bodied palate is relatively restrained with loads of savory layers superbly framed by ripe, fine-grained tannins, finishing long and mineral tinged. (LPB) 96+" (10/2018)

Arietta's H Block is built around Cabernet Franc from Lee Hudson's Hudson Vineyard, planted in the cooler Carneros district at the southern end of Napa Valley, with Merlot traditionally part of the blend. The wine sits at the core of Arietta's Bordeaux-variety program, a project founded by auctioneer Fritz Hatton and winemaker John Kongsgaard.

“A co-fermented mix of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot, all from the Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, the 2016 Red Wine H Block Hudson Vineyards is a beauty that just sings of high-class Cabernet Franc with its forest floor, leafy herbs, iron, truffle, and sweet red and black fruits. With an incredible seamlessness, full body, awesome tannins, and a great finish, it's going to shine for two decades.” (01/2020)

“The flowers and berries really come out here. Lavender. Flows out of the glass. Very aromatic. Full body. Lovely center palate. Silky and refined. You want to drink it now, but give it time.” (01/2020)

“The 2016 H Block Hudson Vineyards, Arietta's Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, has really shut down post bottling. That is probably a very good thing for its long-term prospects. Beams of tannin give the wine energy and thrust. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and spice notes, but above all else, the H Block is a potent, virile wine that needs time in bottle to be at its very best. This is an impressive showing to say the least. (AG) 95+” (09/2018)

“This is a tremendously memorable and well-made cofermentation of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot from one specific block of the mighty Hudson Vineyard in Carneros. Reduced slightly, it brims in graphite, earth and dried herb, with classically stylized secondary layers of cassis, lavender, anise and oak. The texture is sublime. Lovely now, this will do well over time... *Cellar Selection* (VB)” (12/2019)

“Solid, with a gutsy edge to the mix of juicy black currant and blackberry compote flavors, inlaid with charcoal, bay leaf and tobacco accents. Dark but racy through the finish, revealing a smoldering hint. Cabernet Franc and Merlot. (JM)” (05/2019)
