2012 Fratelli Revello Barolo

Bottle Size: 750 ml

Provenance: Purchased from a reputable source and stored in a temperature-controlled home cellar.

Based in La Morra, Fratelli Revello is part of the generation of Barolo producers that modernized cellar work in the 1990s while remaining focused on Nebbiolo from the classic villages of the appellation. The 2012 vintage in Piedmont followed a variable growing season, with many Barolo producers making wines built more on transparency than sheer scale.

Wine Spectator

This is harmonious, featuring cherry, licorice, sandalwood and leather aromas and flavors. Offers an inherent sweetness and a fresh feel, with a refined structure and a terrific finish. Approachable now, but better in a few years. (BS) (12/2016)

James Suckling

A wonderful soft and velvety red with plum, chocolate, and spice aromas and flavors. Full and flavorful. Hard not to drink now! (04/2016)

This opens with aromas suggesting espresso, oak and coconut while the palate shows black raspberry, dried cherry, toast, clove and licorice. Give the tightly wound tannins a few years to unwind then enjoy. (KO) (09/2016)

Vinous

A broad, powerful wine 2012 Barolo Arborina offers notable richness and intensity for the year. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, white pepper and dried herbs blossom in a large-scaled, big Barolo built on volume. The balance of aromatics, fruit and tannin is compelling. Hints of spice, blood orange and white pepper add an attractive element of exoticism as the Arborina continues to flesh out. (AG) (03/2016)

93

Wine Spectator

Textbook aromas and flavors of rose, cherry and tar highlight this elegant, linear red. Mineral and spice accents add complexity as this follows through, with a long, detailed aftertaste. (BS) (10/2015)

Jeb Dunnuck

Intense aromas of rose petal and orange peel. Strawberries too. Full body, chewy tannins and a tight palate. Needs a few years to open but shows style. (03/2016)
