95 points Antonio Galloni for Vinous: "The 2014 Grand Puy Lacoste is superb. Dark, dense and inviting, the 2014 possesses remarkable depth and richness. Black cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and tobacco all develop in the glass, but it is the overall feel that is most impressive. Silky, polished tannins nicely balance the wine's overt personality. In short, the 2014 has it all. Don't miss it. This is a knockout wine from proprietor François-Xavier Borie." (02/2017)

Int'l Wine Review
“The Grand-Puy-Lacoste is an absolutely remarkable showing in vintage. This outstanding Pauillac bursts opens with inviting aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, roasted coffee, tobacco, bell pepper and pencil shavings all coming together in the glass. The palate is full, opulent and beautifully structured with remarkable overall depth and balance as everything expands on to the gorgeous long finish. A simply outstanding showing which will have a wonderful future ahead. (JD)” (10/2017)

“Rich ruby colour, with depth and silkiness to the tannins. Think of this like a mini 2016 - all the same glorious savoury but concentrated fruits, the same graphite, pencil lead and flint that speaks of the appellation, but will be ready to drink just a little sooner, and not quite the same depths. Brilliant, with a juicy slate signoff. 75% new oak. September 25 to October 9.” (09/2021)

“The 2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of my favorite wines from the Left Bank in this vintage. Bright and vivacious blackberry, cedar and graphite scents soar from the glass with real purpose. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite tensile with ample depth. It has matured since I last tasted it four years ago. It is very fresh and has a saline finish. Recommended. (NM)” (03/2024)

“Nice aromatic intensity on the nose, full and forward. High toned, bright and lively but balanced giving quite a fun, energetic expression. It's lean and streamlined, not layered, doesn't venture too far from the centre with an element of tension about it keeping it straight and serious but this has charm and appeal too. A solid effort that's juicy and likeable and not trying too hard. Mineral grip on the finish bringing you back to the terroir. Salty with graphite. Something quite nice about this, still with strength. (GH)” (04/2024)

“A sleek, graphite-fueled version, with ample cassis and black cherry fruit racing along, picking up light tobacco, anise and bramble notes along the way. The fruit is vivid, presenting pleasant coiled-up energy. Should age nicely. (JM)” (03/2017)

Wine Advocate
“The 2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a much more approachable nose than usual, vibrant with red cherries, wild strawberry and cedar aromas, backed up with mineral-soaked blackberry fruit. This gathers momentum wonderfully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. The acidity is very well judged with purity and elegance on the finish, if not the structure or backbone commonly found is very top vintages. I've been a bit conservative with my score at the moment, but I am sure it will prove its worth with 3-5 more years in bottle, hence the plus sign. One to watch. 92+ (NM)” (03/2017)

“Firm with dark tannins, this is a structured wine. It is still reticent, likely to take several more years to show its fruit. It is dense with the black-plum fruit behind the firm tannins. (RV)” (02/2017)

“Rather elegant. Not flashy and not that concentrated but beautifully balanced. Already showing its charms even though the medium body and medium charge of tannins should preserve it for a good long life. 17.5/20 points (JR)” (02/2018)

Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste sits on deep gravel soils in Pauillac and has been owned by the Borie family since the late 1970s. The 2014 vintage is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Left Bank blend from a season that favored later-ripening Cabernet after a dry, sunny September.

“Deep colour. Just beginning to open with the aid of aeration. Dark fruit with a slight vanilla edge. Medium-bodied, clean and fresh. Not quite the fruit weight of top years but firm, ripe tannins and attractive fruit. Won’t disappoint but more for medium-term ageing. (JL) 17/20 points” (08/2025)
