2008 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers"

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers" (94VN, 92BH, 91JM). Vinous: "The estate's 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazétiers is a cool, inward wine graced with exquisite finesse. Dark wild cherries, sage, rosemary and menthol are some of the nuances that come together in the glass. This is a relatively juicy 2008, but it will be even better in a few years' time. "Sweet spot Outstanding" and 90-92 points Allen Meadows: "A classic Gevrey nose with superb complexity and distinctly sauvage notes to the intensely earthy and underbrush suffused red berry fruit aromas that merge seamlessly into very rich and full-bodied flavors where the tannic spine is prominent and firm on the strikingly long finish. Though patience will certainly be required, there is enough extract present that this should not be unduly austere young." (Tasted: Jan 30, 2010)

This hasn't budged very much since my last in-bottle review other than the wood spice is a bit more apparent on the otherwise classic Gevrey nose that displays distinctly sauvage notes on the intensely earthy and underbrush-suffused red berry fruit aromas that, interestingly enough, no longer show that hint of crushed leaf character. There is excellent concentration to the rich and full-bodied flavors where the tannic spine is prominent and firm on the strikingly long and overtly robust finish. Though patience will certainly be required, there is enough extract present that this should not be unduly austere once it begins to mature though note that it is certainly moderately austere and backward at present. This is largely consistent with my original review which is a promising sign. (09/2014)

Jasper Morris

Clear deep vigorous red. The nose is a bit unforthcoming, and the wine is very backward on the palate, but it does have notable intensity. Quite high acidity but this should come through. (06/2018)
