Bid on this bottle of 1983 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (94DC, 94IWR, 94RP). Wine Advocate: "Many years have passed since I last tasted the ’83 Las-Cases. It is reticent at first, like and old tongue-tied friend entering the room, then it blossoms with aeration offering scents of leather, chestnut, brambly black fruit and freshly rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with melted red-berry fruits, firm tannins and superb balance. Hints of bell pepper and sandalwood furnish the long, harmonious finish. This is a wonderful wine for the vintage that is drinking perfectly now. (NM)" (07/2012)

“Again so young, almost not ready to drink but if you are patient things open up and start to sing. The tannic structure on this wine is just so impressive, still doing a good job of cradling blackberry and cassis fruits. It's a little less welcoming than the 1982. Harvest September 28 to October 18 (they began here one day before they finished up the 1982, and the yields were even bigger). More Cabernet in the blend than in 1982 because this was such a late ripening year that suited this variety. Petit Verdot 5% finishes blend. (JA)” (07/2018)

Int'l Wine Review
“The 1983 Château Léoville Las Cases is still drinking phenomenal over 30 years later and has proven to have aged gracefully. This is so balanced with loads of black currant, charcoal, grille and dried floral. The tannins are remarkably soft and and integrated, ending with lovely finish. This is a superb showing from Las Cases and a testament to the winemaking abilities of the Château to make such an age worthy wine from this vintage. (JD)” (06/2014)

“Good depth of colour here. Good intensity up to the rim, paling just a fraction. Mineral, elegant, stylish nose; little notes of coffee-toffee, overlaid with a somewhat organic note. Intriguing. Firm palate, with ripe tannins showing quite strongly. Great flavour and good fruit still. And superb depth. This is exuding quality in the glass and is clearly a first-growth pretender. Excellent wine, still on the way up.” (02/2005)

“Very deep crimson. Rich and concentrated. Tobacco flavours. Vigorous. Real energy here. 18/20 points (JR)” (08/2024)
