3.5*** stars. The nose is an intricate mix of sweet wild cherries, earth and delicate herbs. The wine has a great palate feel, serious, focused with classic Sangiovese notes of plum and cherry, sturdily set up for the long haul. Bright acidity points the way for flavors down the palate, leading to a serious and focused finish. This wine has excellent depth of flavor across the board with much more to blossom with a little cellaring. An excellent wine. 1,250 cases produced. (Greg St.Clair K&L Italian Wine Buyer)

Wine Spectator

Very ripe plum and strawberry aromas follow through to a full body, with soft and silky tannins and a long finish. Sweet juicy fruit on the finish. Best after 2010. 1,200 cases made. JS (04/2009)

Wine Advocate

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino requires a considerable amount of time for its core of super-ripe fruit to emerge from under a wall of imposing tannins. This medium to full-bodied offering shows notable length on the palate. Suggestions of smoke, licorice, and minerals and leather linger on the potent close. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2024. Int'l Wine Cellar

Good medium red. Aromas of plum, tobacco, herbs, smoke and musky underbrush. Suave, supple and fairly dry, with a pliant, accessible texture framed by ripe acidity. Slightly medicinal but not austere, with complicating notes of spices, meat and bonfire. Very sangiovese. (08/2009)

Massanera was a small-scale Tuscan project dedicated to showcasing the potential of indigenous varieties and carefully selected vineyard sites through a distinctly artisanal approach to winemaking. The “Per Me” bottling comes from hillside vineyards in Tuscany, where a combination of galestro soils, abundant sunshine, and cooling evening temperatures creates ideal conditions for producing wines of both concentration and freshness. Emphasizing low yields and traditional cellar practices, the estate sought to highlight the savory complexity, structure, and sense of place that have made Tuscany one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions.
