“Vacca finds a resemblance between 2008 and the illustrious 1978 vintage. The weather was a bit cool and rainy through spring until mid-July, and decidedly warm temperatures marked August, while September continued under favourable conditions of significant diurnal temperature differences. Now a decade old, the 2008 is just hitting its stride. Intensely perfumed scents of forest floor and dried wild flowers waft from the glass. The palate is mineral-driven with powdery tannins, giving plenty of texture and grip. This wine has the concentration to keep going, offering fantastic energy in a seamlessly knit package. “The 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico hits the palate with a blast of fruit intermingled with copious acidity and pure structure. Montefico shares a boundary with Ovello, and shows many of the structural elements typically associated with that side, but with more depth in its fruit, probably because of the southern exposure. The high altitude of these parcels ensures there is plenty of freshness and vibrancy. The Montefico is dazzling, but it will require considerable patience. (AG)” (10/2012)

Round, rich, ripe and full, with lovely chewy sweetness to its soil-driven red fruit flavors.
