Long Shadows Vintners crafts Poet’s Leap from vineyard sites across Columbia Valley, where warm, dry conditions are balanced by cool nighttime temperatures. The region’s well-drained soils and extended growing season allow Riesling to retain acidity while developing concentration, even in botrytized styles. The result is a wine that reflects this terroir with richness, balance, and a clear sense of place.

Wine Enthusiast

Poet's Leap was the first wine to be released under the Long Shadows portfolio, and this 2005 is clearly its best yet. Old-vine Riesling from Dionysus and Weinbau form the core of the wine, which is immaculate, rich and generous. The fruits sound like a county fair in summer—melon, stone fruits, citrus, honey—and the mix of residual sugar (about 1.6%) and racy acids is thrillingly on target. (PG) (05/2007)

Int'l Wine Cellar

Very pale, bright color. Soft citrus, ginger, nutmeg and a whiff of peach skin on the nose. Juicy, fruity and intense, with flavors similar to the aromas. The driest version of this wine to date at 16.5 grams per liter residual sugar. Still, this highly successful riesling is more about varietal than site character. From vines planted in '82, '80, '79 and '72. (ST) (11/2006)
