Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py is one of Burgundy’s most revered artisanal estates, known for extremely low yields, old vines, and intensely concentrated wines that remain deeply rooted in terroir. Charmes-Chambertin is among the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated grand cru vineyards, where limestone-rich soils and ideal mid-slope exposures produce Pinot Noir combining richness with aromatic finesse. Dugat-Py’s meticulous vineyard work and traditional élevage amplify the vineyard’s depth and structure while preserving the earthy minerality and layered complexity that define mature grand cru Burgundy.

Int'l Wine Cellar

Very deep red-ruby color. Sappy, sweet aromas of black raspberry and roasted coffee. Velvety on the attack, then sweet and ripe in the middle palate; seems a bit lighter in acid than some of his other '96's. Explosive, peppery finishing fruit gives an almost saline impression of extract. But a seamless wine, thanks to very ripe, smooth tannins. (03/1998)

John Gilman

Bernard Dugat’s 1996 Charmes-Chambertin is a very well-made wine, but it is a bit extracted in style and has swapped a bit of charm for power. The bouquet is black fruity and complex, offering up scents of black cherries, dark berries, hung game, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still fairly chewy, with a good core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, powerful and slightly four-square finish. (09/2018)
