The full-bodied palate is bursting with vibrant black berry layers and savory sparks, supported by firm, beautifully ripe tannins and a refreshing line, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Modus Operandi Cellars is a small-production winery founded by Jason Moore, centered on vineyard-designate wines that highlight the individuality of Napa Valley’s top growing sites. Houyi Vineyard, located in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, combines rocky volcanic soils with abundant sunlight and cool evening temperatures, conditions that naturally produce Cabernet Sauvignon of concentration and structural tension. Moore’s restrained approach in the cellar emphasizes precision and texture, allowing the vineyard’s dark fruit, mineral character, and freshness to remain clearly defined.

“The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Houyi Vineyard seems to show some of the effects of the vintage's warm spell in its aromas of fruitcake, candied fruit and black cherries accented by gentle baking spices. It's full-bodied, plush and open-knit, then velvety on the finish. While boasting ample concentration, richness and flavor intensity, it does lack a certain sense of precision or grace.
