An old favourite for me, Warre's tercentenary vintage is not only a birth-year wine but was also a favourite during my student days. I haven't had a bottle for years though. This has an evocative nose, and a fine, silky texture on the palate, still with plenty of substance and matured fruit. A lovely, integrating structure beneath it all, good grip and a firm backbone, but still very approachable now. This is very stylish. I am perhaps rather biased by my memories of the wine though. Excellent. 19+/20 points (11/2006)

Tasted as part of the Symington's event at the Portuguese embassy in London to launch the Graham's and Warre's 2020 anniversary ports and celebrate 650 years of Anglo-Portuguese friendship. Principal source: Quinta do Retiro Pequeno with smaller contributions from three neighbouring Rio Torto properties.A little lighter in colour than the Graham's. More nutty, more mature smelling, more undergrowth and less sweet-fruited. Subtle, super-fine tannins, more elegant texture than the Graham's but less gorgeous aromas, less pure, more mature tasting but still has sufficient fruit for balance. 17.5/20 points (JH) (07/2022)
