2019 Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2019 Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet ((91-93JM), (89-91VN), 90BH, 90RP). Jasper Morris: "A large cuvée covering the whole appellation. It is a good feeling to be able to recommend a wine, which should be relatively easily findable in the market place. Pale lemon colour, a vibrant nose with some fresh apples alongside the riper fruit notes. Excellent balance here, nuanced, subtle, authoritative and long." (10/2020)

Vinous

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village felt tight and a little unresponsive when I tasted it at the domaine, especially after the two more expressive Saint-Aubins. The palate is well balanced and demonstrates good concentration with just a touch of viscosity. Ginger and orange rind notes furnish the finish that exhibits fine composure with moderate length. Enjoy over 8-10 years. (NM) (12/2020)

Burghound

Hints of matchstick character and petrol add breadth to the white peach and citrus confit scented nose. The dense, vibrant and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors are notably less refined but more powerful while exhibiting fine length on the compact, long and serious finale. This is a very good Chassagne villages and worth considering. *Burghound Outstanding!* (06/2021)

Wine Advocate

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village wafts from the glass with notes of orange oil, white flowers, Anjou pear, mint and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's bright and lively, with fine concentration, tangy acids and a nicely defined finish. Between the spring frost and a protracted flowering, Alex Moreau reported that yields at this address were appreciably diminished, ranging from a decidedly low 25 hectoliters per hectare to a moderate 40. Harvest began here on September 7, and alcohols top out at 13.4%. Fermentations were a little fast for Alex's liking, but this is once again a superb range, meriting a place in any well-stocked Burgundy cellar. Serious and concentrated, these 2019s evoke the domaine's 2015s, but if anything they're even better balanced. An unusually hurried schedule, compressed by France's second COVID-19 lockdown, precluded revisiting the bottled 2018s, an oversight that will be remedied later this year—from my own cellar, if necessary. In any case, as ever, any wine bearing the Moreau label comes warmly recommended. (WK) (01/2021)

Jancis Robinson

This single wine represents more than 40% of the domaine’s production. From different terroirs both sides of the appellation: one-third from the south and two-thirds from the Puligny side. The different plots are picked separately and then blended after one year at the end of the time in wood. There is just one bottling. He could make lieux dts but thinks ‘it’s interesting to give people a global view of the appellation’. 100–130 barrels usually but in 2019 the total was 92. Tank sample. Pale lemon gold. Quite nuanced nose. Very clean and precise. Quite forward. Very approachable. Long. I can’t see anyone being disappointed in this wine. (10/2020)
