Here the nose is slightly more elegant than the Central Coast and while it is compositionally similar there is better complexity. The medium weight flavors are very supple and seductive, indeed this is already accessible though the supporting tannins do finally appear on the dusty, mouth coating and nicely complex finish. This could easily be enjoyed now though more depth is almost certainly in the offing if this is held for another 3 to 5 years. (04/2015)

The 2013 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) captures the essence of the appellation in its plump, exuberant fruit and supple personality. Bright saline notes underpin a finish that sparkles with brilliance. This is another impeccably balanced, harmonious Pinot from Williams-Selyem. (05/2015)

Wine Spectator

A fresh, snappy style, reverberating with sleek red cherry, raspberry, subtle tea and savory herb notes. (JL, Web-2015) (08/2015)

Another triumph of fine winemaking, this appellation wine is leathery and full bodied, wild and savory in tea, strawberry hull and rocky earth. It shines in subtle acidity and plenty of structure, with ample body to support its angular temptations. (VB) (09/2016)

Wine Advocate

Pale to medium ruby in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley has notes of cranberries and red currants with underlying suggestions of rose hips, cracked black pepper and dusty earth. Medium-bodied and solidly structured, this mouth-filling beauty is already open for business with bags of freshness and a long, perfumed finish. (LPB) (04/2017)

Earthy and savoury on the nose with accents of red cherry and raspberry. Silky and slender on the palate with notes of green tea and wild strawberries. Zesty finish. (TP) (09/2009)

A rich, boisterous wine, the 2014 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) offers a classic sense of Russian River exuberance. Succulent black cherries, cola, spices and menthol meld into the juicy, expressive finish. (AG) (02/2016)

Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream of two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. In less than two decades, Burt and Ed created a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking in the United States, aligning Sonoma County's Russian River Valley with the best winegrowing regions of the world. Today John and Kathe Dyson, who purchased the winery from Burt and Ed in 1998, carry on the passion for Pinot Noir winemaking without compromise.

Lush and earthy in all the right ways, this appellation wine is effusive and floral in a lovely bouquet of wild rose. Bright red fruit persists through the structured and well-integrated body, with fresh acidity and accents of black tea and cardamom lifting it up. (VB) (07/2020)

The appellation 2018 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is outstanding, offering complex notes of ripe black cherries, mulberries, baking spice, and forest, piney nuances. Medium-bodied, it has a seamless, elegant texture and ripe tannins. (12/2020)

91

Wine Advocate

Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley has an open, inviting nose of charcuterie, warm blackberries and cranberries, licorice and bark. Light to medium-bodied, it's restrained and super spicy in the mouth with a fine grain and long, fresh finish. (EB) (07/2020)

91

Wine Spectator

Dried red berry and cherry flavors lengthen out nicely, with sandalwood and cardamom notes. Refined minerality lingers on the finish, with fresh acidity. (KM) (10/2020)

90

Burghound

An elegant, pure and once again very pretty nose flashes more floral influence on the spicy aromas of red cherry, blue berry and discreet sandalwood wisps. The medium-bodied flavors possess a more sophisticated mouthfeel as well as slightly better mid-palate density while offering a bit more persistence on the dusty, firm and youthfully austere finale. *Outstanding* (10/2020)

N/A

Vinous

The 2019 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is a terrific wine in this entry-level part of the range. Supple, open-knit and inviting, the Russian River Pinot captures the essence of the appellation so well. Succulent red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice and leather meld into the juicy, inviting finish. (AG) (05/2021)
