2015 Plumpjack "Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

“Tasted from a bottle under screwcap, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (containing a 6% dollop of Petit Verdot) is a total Napa rock star Cabernet, sporting an inky purple-black color and a gregarious cassis, crushed blackberries and mulberries nose with hints of incense, dusty earth and menthol, plus a waft of lilacs. Big, bold, buxom and voluptuous, it is very full, perfectly ripe and incredibly seductive in the mouth, with lovely fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness to support, going into an epically long, spicy finish. “The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a large-scale, full-throttle wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, sweet spice and copious new oak literally stain the palate. There's no shortage of intensity here. That said, the 2015 has aged well and remains quite young. The oak imprint is strong, but some of that dissipates with air. The Reserve is just beginning to enter its first plateau of maturity. I tasted it from a bottle under screwcap, a closure Plumpjack pioneered in Napa Valley with their top wine. (AG)” (11/2025)
