2017 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Auction (375ml)

The caramelized-fruit character on the nose is almost overwhelming, and the concentration on the palate knocks you back slightly. Still very youthful, but the balance is already near-perfect. Gigantic depth at the super fresh finish, which doesn't want to let go. Better from 2019, but it will probably live as long as you or I will!

This is the only Gold Kap in the cellar in 2017 and it will be auctioned off in Trier in September. It is a beautiful wine in the making and will be one of the stars in Trier. The nose is heavily botrytized and hauntingly beautiful, wafting from the glass in a mix of pineapple, white cherries, honey, orange zest, a touch of salty soil tones and a topnote of lemon blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and dancing, with a great core, stunning complexity, bright, zesty acids and magical length and grip on the vibrant and sizzling finish. A great botrytis wine and my absolute favorite in the cellars this year. 97+
