2020 E. Guigal "La Doriane" Condrieu

Bid on this bottle of 2020 E. Guigal "La Doriane" Condrieu (99JD, 95DC, 95JS, 95VN, 93RP). Jeb Dunnuck: "Just about pure perfection and one of the finest Condrieu to pass my lips, the 2020 Condrieu La Doriane offers an insane bouquet of grilled pineapple, charcoal, crushed stone, acacia flowers, and white peach. It picks up an incredibly sense of salinity on the palate and is full-bodied, has blockbuster concentration, remarkable purity and focus, and a great finish. " (02/2022)

(image displayed is from a previous vintage - this offer is for the 2020) John Livingstone Learmonth for Cradle of the Rhone: "(bottling this week) ripe yellow robe; the bouquet is full, but not too intense, the oak bringing overt toasting more than vanilla, a good thing. There are buttery, grilled notes, infused herbal tea airs, quince fruit present. The palate has a stylishly rich start, centres around a firm gras, takes a slightly red wine route in its structure, the finish emphatic, notes of tannin there. It sustains well. Take your time with this: from 2023, decant it. It will show very well around 2026. 14.5°. 2031-33." (06/2021)

Full-bodied and very rich, but there's plenty of salinity to balance the oak work, which is robust but very high quality. Fresh and drinkable already, as flamboyant as ever and with a long finish. From lieux-dits Chatillon, Chéry, Vernon, Colombier and Château de Vallon in Malleval (where soils are granite with iron oxide). 100% new oak barriques. (MW) (09/2021)

What a fascinatingly smoky and flinty nose this Condrieu has! I love the touches of vanilla bean, mandarin orange peel and jasmine that emerge as you swirl the glass. It masters a remarkable balance on the expansive and subtle palate, a hint of bitterness helping to balance the softness and creaminess of the long finish. (02/2022)

Vinous

The 2020 Condrieu La Doriane is magnificent. Showing terrific concentration and complexity alongside spot-on freshness, it unfurls with delicious apricot, orange blossom, vanilla, white peach, brioche and melon. The 2020 is an outstanding La Doriane with slightly more precision than the almost equally enticing 2019. (NG) (03/2024)

Wine Advocate

While the 2020 Condrieu la Doriane matured entirely in new oak, there's just a hint of toast on the nose. The rest of the bouquet features a kaleidoscopic swirl of floral and spice notes with melon and white peach. Medium to full-bodied, it's exquisitely expansive and silky in texture, yet it remains refreshing on the lengthy, mouthwatering finish. (JC) (02/2022)
