Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1962 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (92VN). Vinous: "Healthy dark red. Allluring aromas of black cherry, coffee, licorice and dried flowers. Supple and creamy but dry in the mouth, offering excellent definition and cut to its subtle flavors of cherry, fresh herbs and minerals. Not an opulent wine but sexy, pliant and perfumed. Finishes with sweet, ripe tannins, a lingering balsamic element and excellent length. (ST)" (03/2015)

Notes

A four-star vintage, according to critic Michael Broadbent in his book Vintage Wine. He also awarded the 1962 Cheval Blanc four stars, reviewing it more than 20 times over the decades: "It was on the light side despite its youthful severity in October 1965, but opened up quite quickly in the 1970s, lovely but lean and perhaps lacking in length. Only one recent note, its colour noticeably red; bouquet low-keyed but in under 30 minutes had opened up beautifully; medium-sweet, lovely flavour, well balanced. The '62 acidity hinted at by its red tinge not particularly noticeable."
