Vinous

The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Block 8 is another stunning wine from Hirsch. A Pinot of textural density and power, the 2021 is outrageously beautiful. Succulent dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and new leather are all amplified. The blend of Pommard and Wadenswil clones on this mountain site yields a wine of magnificent structure and vertical energy. (AG) (01/2024)

Jeb Dunnuck

The 2021 Pinot Noir Block 8 was planted a couple of years after the East Ridge and West Ridge vineyards on soils with high iron content, which comes through as a sanguine tone in the wine with notes of blood orange and mouthwatering saline lift. In the glass, it pours a rich ruby red color and offers aromas of orange peel, wild lavender, grenadine, and cedar. Medium-bodied, it has an outstanding concentration of fruit without any excess weight, offering ripe, structured tannins, a persistent mineral undercurrent, and an incredibly long finish. This is an incredible wine with tremendous appeal to enjoy over the next 15-20 years. 98+ (AF) (06/2024)

James Suckling

Lots of hibiscus and strawberries with citrus flowers like oranges. Very perfumed. Full-bodied, firm and juicy, with savory and beautifully formed muscular tannins. It’s very long and tensioned. Lovely persistence. Great finish. Please be patient. Try after 2026. (11/2023)

Wine Advocate

The 2021 Pinot Noir Block 8 is expressive and nuanced this vintage! It bursts from the glass with scents of pomegranate, blood orange, lavender, licorice, mushroom and dried clay. The medium-bodied palate offers highly concentrated, layered flavors supported by finely chalky tannins and enlivened by lip-smacking acidity, and it finishes with a flourish of spice and earth accents.
