The 2023 Pet-Nat Malvasia Bianca is exuberantly aromatic, with a rush of lychee, dragonfruit, potpourri and floral perfume. Tart and energetic, the 2023 has great texture and serious juiciness. It's a porch-pounder with actual complexity. Stylized and delicious. (BN)

Maurer, located in Serbia’s Szabadka and Fruška Gora regions, is a family-run winery steeped in over 3,000 years of winemaking tradition. Oszkár Maurer embraces natural, authentic practices, farming organically on sandy, volcanic, and sedimentary soils across 15 hectares that span hillside vineyards near the Danube. His estate includes some of the oldest Kadarka vines in the world, dating back to 1880, and a diverse mix of native and international varieties. Maurer’s wines reflect their terroir through spontaneous fermentations and minimal intervention, capturing both the history of the land and the Maurer family’s deep connection to it. Maurer’s sparkling wine from the nearly forgotten white Bakator grape is made from own-rooted, bush-trained vines planted in 1909. This rare variety, found mostly around Lake Balaton and a small area in Ukraine, is unique in that it’s unrelated genetically to the red and blue Bakators. The wine is partially fermented with a subtle twist of citra hops, before bottling where it finishes its fermentation. Light, refreshing, and limited in production, it offers a rare glimpse into an almost lost grape with Maurer’s signature natural approach. *Natural Wine* *No Sulfites Added*

Maurer’s 2024 Kadarka Pét Nat is an organic sparkling wine born from Oszkár’s permaculture experiments with unpruned vines—some even growing up trees—to let the vine’s natural growth protect and nurture the grapes. This approach favors flavor and vine health over high yields and conventional ripeness targets. The wine is bottled without disgorging, maintaining controlled pressure and sediment. It captures a wild, natural expression of Kadarka, with freshness and complexity shaped by extended élevage. *Natural Wine* *No Sulfites Added*
Bid on this bottle of 2019 Domaine Huet Vouvray Pétillant Brut. Sourced from all three of the domaine's celebrated crus — Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Clos du Bourg — and made méthode traditionnelle from biodynamically farmed Chenin Blanc, this finely tuned sparkler offers a supple, rounded, airy expression, light on its feet with fresh fruit character and a delicate, lees-derived almond note. A refined thread of acidity carries through the finish. Drink 2024-2035. 90 (VN) 05/2024.
