Has elected to remain outside the four-tier Rutherglen Classification structure; has a vast haul of awards, mainly from overseas wine competitions. There is a lightness of touch to the wine that is most appealing, with spice and raisin aromas and flavours to the fore, and without heating the finish.

This is a wine that makes me a little speechless with hard candy licorice and prune. Full body, very sweet and rich. Layered. A creme brulee finish. Intense.

(Note from 2008 review, re-reviewed with no new note in 2009) The N.V. Fine Muscat offers the most complexity of this hedonistic trio. Dark amber-colored, it delivers flavors of toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and dates. All three are well balanced and have long, pure finishes. They are extraordinary values. (JM)

Light, bright amber. Sexy aromas of red berry compote, gingerbread and spicecake, with a deeper note of cherry pit coming up with air. Tightly wound, powerful red fruit flavors are given spine by tangy minerality, a hint of orange zest and peppery spices. A deeper note of molasses comes up on the long, clinging finish. (JR)

Notes

Established as a family winery back in 1921, the Bullers continue to this day to produce incredible fortified wines from the historic Rutherglen region. The wines are not only steeped in history, but also get rapturous acclaim from the world's top critics in recognition of their stunning quality and outrageous value. As with most wines of this style, the solera method is utilized for consistency and balance of flavors combining youthful purity with aged complexity and rancio notes to die for. Basically, this decadent style of wine combines the floral notes and sweetness of a late harvest Muscat with the richness, nuttiness and rancio barrel-aged characters of tawny port or even sherry, along with a lovey spice and kick from the fortifying brandy. It is selected from a solera that has been in rotation for decades and the flavors are beautifully married. If you haven't experienced one of these legendary Rutherglen dessert wines, this is a real classic with which to get started!
