1982 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc

Wine Advocate
Review Date: 12/2022A wine that must have been available for a nugatory price back in the day, the 1982 Lanessan is drinking superbly at age 40. Still impressively saturated in hue, it wafts from the glass with aromas of berry fruit, plums, camphor, loamy soil and subtle hints of cigar box. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a generous core of ripe fruit, succulent acids and fine, chalky tannins that still assert themselves on the finish. It only becomes sweeter and fleshier with time in the decanter and glass. (WK)

Notes
Château Lanessan, owned by the Bouteiller family since the French Revolution, is a storied Haut-Médoc estate. Founded in 1793 by Jean Delbos, the property has expanded from 24 to 80 hectares, including the notable Château de Sainte Gemme and Lachesnaye. Embracing modernity, Lanessan has integrated advanced technology and environmental practices, achieving HVE3 certification. According to Robert Parker: "This underrated Medoc consistently produces wines of fifth-growth quality..." Over the years Chateau Lanessan has gained quite a following here at K&L for offering exceptional Bordeaux values. The legendary 1982 vintage in Bordeaux remains a solid 95 points in Wine Spectator's vintage charts: "Intense ripe fruit and generous in style; plenty of round tannins."
