A smoky rosé, with an alluring mix of fruit and earth notes. Shows a lot of presence, depth and complexity, with a streak of saline in tandem with red currant– and clementine-laced acidity. A characterful wine that vibrates with energy and harmony. Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2027.

The moment this wine arrives, I cannot wait to get a bottle in the fridge and then taste it. Every year, the Domaine du Bagnol ranks as a best in class for rose consumption and the 2023 does not disappoint. The exuberant nose is filled with aromas of strawberries and pamplemousse. The texture is vibrant with lingering acidity. The finish is crisp and long with that classic hint of salinity. This is impressive rose! And that's just its newly arrived profile. It has not even had a few months to settle. I can only imagine how much better this will be if I can keep some bottles through the end of summer. Unlikely it will last that long in my cellar though. I'm chilling another bottle down for this weekend. You should too!

This is the second vintage of this spectacular rose that I've had the privilege of tasting and it is, hands down, one of the best roses we have in the store. It bursts out of the glass with tropical aromas and flavors that sweep you away to the picturesque Mediterranean fishing port of Cassis in southern France where it was crafted. The town's motto is (roughly translated), "Who has seen Paris and not Cassis, has not seen anything." Revised in honor of this rose, "Who has tasted rose and not Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Rose, has not tasted anything." The hot weather is coming, and this is the perfect way to celebrate.

Notes

This rosé comes from a handful of parcels that total seven hectares of vineyards planted in clay and limestone soils, on a gentle north-northwest-facing slope. Grenache-dominated, with smaller percentages of Mourvedre and Cinsault. Like the Cassis Blanc, the wine is taut, fresh and slightly saline. The winery makes only a small quantity of this, making this extremely hard to find, but its deliciousness makes it highly sought after. Get yours before it's gone.
