2021 Château Malherbe Côtes de Provence Rouge
Notes
Chateau Malherbe is located near the seaside village of La Londe les Maure near the historic Bragancon Fort, the former summer house of the presidents of France. The vines, just meters away from the Mediterranean, are older vines planted over clay-schist soils. The vineyards have been farmed organically since the 1960s, but were recently Demeter certified biodynamic. Wine consultant Philippe Pacalet (famed Bourgogne vigneron and formerly of DRC) is the consulting winemaker working alongside Jean Laburthe who handles the daily operations. The rouge is a blend of blend of Grenache and Syrah from plot #23 and Mourvèdre from plot #18 grown on a mix of red clay and schist. All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented from native yeasts. The wine is aged in 600L and 2500L oak casks for 12 months. This is a full-bodied red that illustrates the untapped complexity and potential of red wines cultivated in this region. *Biodynamic*
