Perhaps once or twice a year a deal this good turns up. And when it does, we go all-in. I suggest you do the same! A few weeks back in Napa I tasted a great number of potential wines and this was a clear standout even amongst much more expensive bottles, so we literally backed up the truck! Despite the remarkably low price, this is a flat out delicious rich, powerful, satisfying Cabernet. The fruit is from an excellent vineyard site in Paso Robles' Estella District. This area of Paso is known for intensely rocky, gravelly soils at the confluence of two rivers that have laid down 20-30ft of cobblestones and pebbles. The soil (or lack thereof) here reminds me of the vineyards in Pessac-Léognan or Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vines struggle amongst the stones producing small amounts of intensely concentrated fruit laced with a crushed rock mineral core. The fruit profile is dominated by lush crème de cassis, huckleberry, smoked damson, hints of graphite, new leather, and cedar. It's full bodied, with great texture on the palate, loads of fine-grained tannins adding a nice tactile grip to the rich, ripe, decant fruit. Serious Cabernet that combines big, succulent, rich fruit, with a classic muscular structure and beautiful varietal character. Honestly, it was a great bottle of wine for it's original price, at our ludicrously low Insider's Advantage price it's the deal of the year so far. You just don't get wine even close to this good for anything near this price point.

This is an easy-drinking style of Cabernet Sauvignon, with refreshing flavors of red plums, red cherries, mocha, cinnamon, savory dried herbs, sweet tobacco, cinnamon, with a spicy, fresh finish. The perfect bottle for your weeknight value drinker, or by the case for your next barbeque party!

Opening on the nose, Richard Bruno's "Giacone Vineyard" Cabernet offers the staple Paso Pencil minerality, which wraps around a dense & thriving core of fresh blackberries and bramble fruit, with a gentle knock of oak hanging on the finish - though relatively young from 2020, this wine is drinking fresh and full today, with no "extra work" or thought needed, absolutely ready for dinner with friends or as a slow, savory, solo sip as the day winds down.

Bombastic but balanced, the 2020 Richard Bruno Giacone Vineyard Cabernet offers forward flavors of ripe blueberries and blackberries with a lovely hint of vanilla. This is a lushly textured, densely fruited wine, but one that retains plenty of freshness as well. A great wine for weeknight dinners or enjoying on its own, and a superb value too!

Notes

Giacone Ranch Vineyard sits at the confluence of the Estrella River and Huerhuero Creek with incredibly rocky, gravely soils like those of Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. This sub-region of Paso Robles sees big diurnal shifts in temperature with hot days and cool nights as ocean air pushes in from the west. These ideal conditions produce and powerful, concentrated and opulent style of Cabernet with intense flavors and lush textures on the palate.
