Koskenkorva Finnish Vodka (750ml)
Notes
The Koskenkorva distillery in Southern Ostrobothnia was originally built by the Finnish alcohol monopoly, Oy Alkoholiliiki Ab, on the Koskenkorva family's land in 1941. On the banks of Kyröjoki river, the little village of just 2200 residents is a long 4 hours’ drive from Helsinki. The distillery began full operation in 1953 and at this time the country was still recovering from the great war. But the previous year, Helsinki Olympic Games had revitalized the whole nation and Koskenkorva was no exception. The first Koskenkorva product, Koskenkorva Viina, entered the market in 1953 to be used in mixed drinks or as chilled schnapps. It became the most popular spirit in Finland in 1960. Today, Koskenkorva is Finland’s best-selling spirit brand. Winners of 2018 Green Business award, 99% of all inputs are recycled at the distillery. The barley is sourced primarily from the farms in the surrounding area. The endless days of arctic summers create a unique growing environment and special varietals of barley are used for this unique environment. The water is drawn from a deep water and is 100% unprocessed before its use. The mineral spring water is fed by the snow melt from the craggy ridges of Salpausselkä and the sandy soils clean the water naturally. The people of Koskenkorva are hardworking and honest, just like their vodka. This is vodka from a village.
