Review Date: 05/2022The estate is noted for white wine, and this latest release lives up to the reputation. This textured, mainly Sauvignon Blanc wine has tight acidity set against wood aging and ripe citrus and white-fruit flavors. *Top 100 Cellar Selection of 2022* (RV)

Apricot, pear and apple on the nose with a soft lime tang. Great persistence and energy, fruit has been well controlled and this delivers a round but fresh and lively glass of wine with subtle minerality on show too. Crunchy apple, candied lemon, some pineapple bitterness and a touch of marmalade or orange rind. Quie a tense, frank and linear style with definition and precision. Excellent winemaking. (GH)

One of the great classics of Bordeaux dry whites, demonstrating its ability to consistently deliver polish and impact while retaining classic white Bordeaux minerality and freshness. There are touches of freshly cut grass on the attack, variety typicity although there is also a good amount of Sémillon in the blend adding structure and richness. The texture opens and widens through the mid palate, and this is a wine with a deft touch and plenty of juice on the finish. Andréa Perrin, son of co-owner Eric Perrin, joined the team as the château’s cellar master in January 2019. 25% new oak (with ageing taking place in a variety of barrels and wooden vats from 225h to 50hl).

Dried lemon, beeswax, sage, pineapple and guava on the nose. Medium-bodied with tangy acidity. Vibrant citrus and tropical fruit. Compact, creamy and intense. 65% sauvignon blanc and 35% semillon.

This is such a great value for top-tier Bordeaux Blanc, and from a balanced vintage like 2019 – it offers awesome guava and citrus aromatics from well-ripened fruit, great freshness and acidity, minerality and a touch of flinty smoke from oak aging. Carbonnieux sits on some of the best white wine terroir in the world, and this shows it off so well for a good price.

The 2019 Carbonnieux Blanc is a wonderful dry, white Bordeaux that should not be missed! Fresh citrus, orchard, and tropical fruits notes interwoven with white flowers, mint, and minerality.
Notes
92 points Antonio Galloni in Vinous: "The 2019 Carbonnieux Blanc is bright and exquisitely sculpted. Lemon peel, white pepper, white flowers, mint and crushed rocks are beautifully delineated. Deceptively weightless in feel, this airy, understated white offers notable complexity. I especially like how the 2019 opens with a bit of aeration." (02/2022)
