Bright medium red-ruby. Brambly blackberry, dark raspberry, black pepper, mocha and minerals on the nose, plus a touch of reduction. Then rich, broad and almost chocolatey on the palate, offering a fine-grained texture and very good concentration to its sweet, juicy dark berry, pepper and spice flavors. This is a fairly substantial, chocolatey-ripe wine for a Michelini brother (In this case, Matías) but I'm not complaining. Harmonious acidity and salty minerality give this wine early deliciousness but there's no rush to drink it. Finishes with a broad, fine dusting of tannins and a lingering note of cocoa powder. Malbec and Syrah are hardly a typical blend but I like the results here. A stunning bargain at $12, this wine should enter the U.S. market by the end of September. (ST)

Some of the most delicious and fun wines coming from Argentina are associated with Matias Michelini. There is a carefree easiness to his wines, especially this. They are meticulously made but not uptight. Just look at this label, now it says a lot about me, but this label is irresistible. The wine is a blend of Malbec and Syrah. When was the last time you saw a 50/50 blend of the two? This wine is about hanging out with friends and having a good time. There is plenty of fruit, but it is not a fruit bomb. There is a unique mix of red fruits and berries, look at the blend as well as a fun mix of herbal notes and spice. There is enough tannin to give it oomph without it needing food. That being said, red meat is what this wants, tri-tip or burgers you get the vibe. Quick note it is a little reductive. pour a half glass, screw the top back on and give it a good shake, open a proceed to have a good time.

This is a really interesting wine that is a very unusual blend of 50% Malbec and 50% Syrah and is raised in concrete eggs. Passionate Wines strive to make experimental wines that express terroir, in this case the Uco Valley. It is lighter bodied but still has plenty of fruit with a touch of pepper and spice and a soft finish with no hard edges. The blend works really well and for under $12 it is a real bargain and makes a nice change of pace.

On the nose there is grapefruit, cranberry, orange zest. This wine is feels wild, but still firmly rooted in fruit expression. There are elements that are similar to pinot noir or light bodied, whole cluster grenache, but it is explosively aromatic and distinctive. Medium bodied with spicy red fruits and crunchy tannin make this a very compelling, yet totally delicious glass of wine. I can’t really think of another wine this exciting at this price.
