Smoke wagon has slowly become one of the most important brands on the market today. They've been lucky to secure good contracts from the excellent distillery in Lawrenceberg Indiana. That means they've got older stocks that few other bottlers boast and this is their top tier offering After aging for 6-8 years at the distillery in Indiana, the barrels are transferred to the small Smoke Wagon facility in Las Vegas Nevada for finishing. Just a few months in the dry desert heat seems to make a difference. But Smoke Wagon is also doing a killer job of selecting and blended their best bottles into this extravagant. Many new bottlers are happy to charge $70-80 for 5-6 year old MGP, not half as well selected or blended, but Smoke Wagon offers this awesome tiny batch bourbon, which is much older and better than most MGP offerings, for just $65. The Uncut cult is still small, but those who know are drawn to it. If you haven't yet tried, it should definitely be on your must try list. Lets try it. A golden auburn color. The nose is dense dark, charred oak, with toasted vanilla bean and rich burnt sugar. Cooked red and black fruit pointed with cloves and sweet herbs in the background. Textured and rich on the palate with a big rich cacao note and a sweet oak to balance the bold spicy front palate. Finally it moves into more vanilla and some serious sweetness as it goes down. I don't know what they're doing to these barrels, but it feels like they're getting a bunch of real cherries to add to each batch. All in all one of the best proper cask strength bourbons on the shelf.
