Review Date: 05/2019Situated in one of the northern sectors of Margaux, this estate was created in the 13th century. This sumptuous wine has enormous power that is mitigated by the taut, mineral texture and black-currant flavors. It is a finely wrought wine that will take time to age. *Cellar Selection* (RV)

Dense and chewy with very firm and silky tannins. Full-bodied and powerful.

Here we are stepping up a gear for this estate, with careful but not shy fruit extraction, some real intensity to the silky raspberry and bilberry flavours, and tannins that cradle without overpowering the fruit. Brilliant value for money in a wine where you get a hint of the floral silkiness of Margaux. Owned by CA Grands Crus, the same group that owns Grand Puy Ducasse, Tour de Mons is benefitting from recent investments together with the sure touch of technical director Anne le Naour. 56% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot. The 2016 La Tour de Mons has a lifted, quite spicy bouquet with kirsch, red berry fruit and touches of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, great volume and ripeness. The finish comes through more like a 2015 in style with a smooth texture and quite a luscious graphite tinged note. Very fine. (NM)

La Tour de Mons has been a go-to Margaux value for us over the years, and the 2016 is one of the quintessential examples that speaks to the upside at this address. On the nose it has notes of violet and licorice, with good aromatic complexity. The palate is impressive for its purity and focus - there's a line of bright acid through the core, supporting ripe dark cherry and currant. An impressive texture provides a great level of refinement, which is impressive one of the great qualities of the remarkable 2016 vintage. I would wager that this is just the very beginning of a long drinking window - it is certainly very enjoyable right out of the gates now, but will develop well over the years to come. For a top example of value on the Left Bank, the 2016 Tour de Mons is a smashing success and hard to beat.

Another classic Margaux and for a price that is astonishingly affordable. Raspberries, cocoa, touch of tobacco, and inviting notes of incense and spices. Approachable now. A Perfect pairing with a rack of lamb!
