The level of richness and fruit power captured in this elegant, silky St.-Emilion is impressive. Dark plums, roasted coffee and baking spices are wrapped up in solid, silky tannins. Great depth.

Chauvin's vines are located in northwest St-Émilion, close to Pomerol. The property was bought by Sylvie Cazes in 2014. This is tight and fairly austere at the moment, but has rich fruit and full tannins. A very enjoyable wine that delivers polish. Drinking Window 2023 - 2038. (JA)

From an estate recently purchased by Sylvie Cazes, who is renovating the estate, the 2015 Château Chauvin checks in as a blend of 80% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, from sandy/clay soils, that was brought up in 60% new barrels. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a pure, elegant bouquet of crème de cassis, damp earth, candle wax, and spring flowers. Rich, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, with terrific elegance, it has ripe, present tannin, good acidity, and is going to age beautifully. Tasted twice. 92+

The 2015 Chauvin is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and earthy on the nose with bay leaves, warm plums, underbrush, baked cherries and menthol aromas. The medium to full-bodied mouth is firm and chewy, a little taut but packed with flavor layers and finishing with an herbal lift. (LPB)

This big fruity wine is very aromatically expressive with dark fruits, roasted herb, mint, exotic spices and espresso. Flavors of ripe plum and sweet baked cherries bury the tannins on the intense finish and lend a long, smooth expression. Despite the huge fruit profile and lurking structure this is a wine of balance to decant tonight or cellar for a decade.
Notes
90 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "The 2015 Chauvin has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with crushed strawberry and blackberry scents mixed with briary and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite a succulent and fleshy Chauvin with perhaps just a tad too much extraction on the finish. Give this a year or two in bottle because the fruit is pure—it just needs to find more control and terroir expression." (02/2018)
