Impressive ripe blackberry and darker plum fruits with notes of earth and warm stones. The palate has a supple, even-paced and fresh fruited heart of red cherry and plum fruits. Smooth tannins flow long.

Lanessan 2015 is medium to deep garnet in color. It has fragrant notes of crushed blackberries, Morello cherries, and cassis plus hints of underbrush and dried Provencal herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate has a firm, grainy texture and great freshness to offset the bright red and black fruits, finishing with a skip in its step. (LPB)

Bright and lively, this has a zing to it, the fruit appearing a touch high toned at the beginning, the acidity making the edges appear rather than being more round plush but it's direct and focussed in a calm sense. Definitely on the blue fruit cooler side of the spectrum and this has excellent acidity and overall control. I like the styling, it's graceful and in a great drinking period. Not a showstopper but for classic Claret with age and lots of life this is great. (GH)

Big dose of red fruits on the nose! In the mouth, darker fruits led by red cassis and black cherry & plum. Plush center palate. Long finish that is dry, slightly savory with additional dried lavender flavors.

The first vintage that Hubert de Bouard (of Angélus fame) consulted on, this is a turning point for one of the more historical estates in all of Bordeaux. It doesn't hurt that it is also a great vintage in the region. This isn't too far off the old-school charmer that many have adored from the estate over the years, but perhaps with a bit more refinement and polish. A good amount of cassis, licorice, and cedar line the aromas, while the palate is full of crisp red fruit, fine tannin, and hints of leather. Make no mistake - this is still a reserved and classic style of claret that tastes like Old World Bordeaux all the way. At this stage it is certainly ready to drink, but still has more evolution to go before it hits maturity. Either way, the 2015 Lanessan is in a great place.

This is sleek, powerful and filled with red fruit flavors-particularly cherries. This seems light on its feet for a 2015 due to the wonderful balance but don't be fooled as there is plenty of stuffing and tension buried in the mid-palate. Super value that will age well.

Notes

90-92 points, Neal Martin: "The 2015 Lanessan has quite a punchy, fruit-driven bouquet with well-integrated oak, a Lanessan with more sense of purpose than I have found in recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine blackberry and raspberry fruit, fine tannin, leading to a smooth and harmonious finish, which lingers nicely in the mouth. You know, this is the best Lanessan for a long time, perchance because Mon. De Bouard is consulting?" (04/2016)
