The perfect 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Lark, is a limited production (268 cases) and a magnificent wine. It probably has 50 years of upside potential. The notes of melted chocolate, Christmas fruitcake, cr?me de cassis, cedar wood, truffles and camphor are all present in this wine of exceptional intensity, purity and a skyscraper-like mid-palate and finish. This is amazing wine that probably won’t hit its prime for a decade and last a good 40-50 years. (RP)

Blueberry, blackberry, and licorice aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, velvety tannins, and a flavorful finish. Generous yet reserved. Shows class and depth.

Larkmead's 2013 The Lark, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from two parcels on the heart of the property, is a rich, dense and unctuous wine. Dark red and black fruit, smoke, licorice and dark spices are pushed forward. In this lineup, The Lark stands out for its exceptional purity, density and overall richness, all of which come through in a dark, brooding expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Lark emerges from a single block of Cabernet on bale loam. (AG)

The year was touted as a great vintage for structured Cabernets in Napa, and The Lark has the kind of density and brooding power found in top examples. 2013 was the year winemaker Dan Petroski shifted the wine from a barrel selection to a vineyard designate. The wine comes from a small parcel of vines on Bale loam that’s surrounded by more gravelly soil. The vines are exclusively the 337 clone, which makes denser, more fruit-forward wines with a floral character. This is exceptionally aromatic, balanced and savoury, with an almost juicy element to its pure fruit and cedary flavours. You can see Petroski’s philosophy in the tannins, which are less rustic and more refined. (EM)
