The 2009 Barolo Falletto is an exuberant and exciting wine with tight, firming tannins surrounded by deep layers of dried cherry, licorice, cassis, moist tobacco and campfire ash. What sets this Barolo apart is the focus and care it shows on the bouquet. It is as if each layer is a separately audible voice in a united chorus of flavors and aromas. Also notable is the balanced acidity that adds a bite of freshness without being too sharp. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. (ML)

A very balanced and refined Barolo with plums, strawberries and cedar. Full body, yet fresh and clean. Long and silky finish. A wine that builds on the palate. Better in 2016.

The candied cherry, sweet strawberry, floral and white pepper notes are accented by black tea and tobacco details in this densely wound red. Holds firm on the finish, showing a dusty grip of tannins. Best from 2017 through 2028.

Exotic candied strawberry and musky truffle aromas are lifted by pepper and a floral topnote. Quite smooth if not yet especially expressive, offering a juicy quality to the flavors of red berries, red cherry, mint and spices. There's lovely ripe red fruits here, and nicely sweet tannins, but this wine seemed to clamp down with air. It will need at least a few years of cellaring to express its personality.
