A wine that could easily be mistaken for a First Growth, the 2010 Rauzan-Ségla is an incredibly powerful, full-bodied wine by this estate’s standards, yet it nevertheless holds onto a terrific sense of elegance as well as perfect balance. A huge nose of blackcurrants, smoked earth, tobacco, lead pencil, and spice give way to a concentrated, blockbuster styled Margaux that has thrilling depth of fruit, masses of ripe tannins, and great length and finesse on the finish. This brilliant wine is just now seemingly on the edge of its drink window and offers immense pleasure, yet it has another 30-40 years of life ahead of it.

Beautiful clarity of fruit with raspberries and currants on the nose. Roses and other flowers too. It's almost hard to describe, but there's a real purity. Full body, with fabulous balance and depth. It has everything in the right place. Best ever?

Extremely good quality, a wonderfully accomplished, impressive Margaux where you feel so happy to be tasting it. It delivers accomplished impressive classified Bordeaux character. Black fruits, liquorice, smoke and pulsating tannins. Just so elegant, so Rauzan, just at the beginning of its drinking window. (JA)

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Rauzan-Ségla is youthfully reticent and closed to begin, slowly unfurling to offer notions of underbrush, black truffles, smoked meats and tar over a core of baked black cherries, prunes and crème de cassis plus touches of iron ore and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, concentrated and jam-packed with savory/earthy fruit, it has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with great length and expression. (LPB)

Here is a profound wine with earthy aromas of crushed flowers, dark fruit and a minty note that is huge but effortless and balanced. The open knight fruit profile, classy lines and fine grip on the finish almost hide the 20 plus years of ageing potential lurking underneath. A fantastic effort that is well worth the money.

An ager with deep, concentrated aromas of toasted oak, smoke and Asian spice. Big wine but very silky for a 2010 wine. Will age a long time, but good to drink in next five years.

Notes

95+ points, Robert Parker upon release - Wine Advocate: "To reiterate, the 2010 Rauzan Segla is like a super-duper version of the 1986. Displaying fabulous density, an inky purple color and a superb nose of forest floor with a hint of menthol as well as loads of creme de cassis, mocha and touches of chocolate and subtle oak, this full-bodied, deep, concentrated wine represents only 45% of the estate’s production. It is certainly not for those who can’t wait a few years for it to round into shape, as I suspect it needs at least 5-8 years of bottle-age, but it should last for half a century or more. A stunning wine from Rauzan Segla, kudos go to administrator John Kolasa for turning out this profound wine, which should prove to be a timeless classic from the appellation of Margaux." (02/2013)
