Review Date: 02/2012Made from a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, the second wine, the 2009 Reserve de la Comtesse, exhibits notes of forest floor, white chocolate, licorice, black currants and vanillin-infused black cherries. It possesses a sweet, round, generous style given its high glycerin. (RP)

Bright and sappy, with kirsch and damson plum notes streaking along, followed by tangy iron and floral notes alongside. There's good zip and cut along the finish, with a lingering mineral edge. (JM)

Always a classic, and very balanced. Cassis and plums followed by coffee beans and a great structure. A very elegant wine.

A classic rendition of Pauillac in a great vintage. Blue/black fruit, cedary oak, pencil shavings, cigar box. Lovely weight without too much extraction, pure, vibrant acidity, firm but fine tannins. Accessible now (hasn't tightened up like many 2009s), but certainly has 15+ years ahead. Really classic stuff super affordable thanks to the exchange rate really working for us!

Top vintage. Top appellation. Top producer... The Reserve De La Comtesse 2009 has it all, and it shows in the glass! This is full bodied claret, with the Pauillac lead pencil aromatics, rich dark fruit on the mid palate and length for days on the finish. This offers most of what the first wine has, but in a much more ready to drink and open fashion. Don't miss it!
