James Suckling
Review Date: 10/2012This is powerful and racy with lots of class. Full body, very sweet with lots of spicy botrytis character. Intense. Drink or hold.

The 2005 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is medium lemon-gold in color. It is a little subdued to begin, giving way to notes of lemon marmalade, honey-coated nuts, and unsmoked cigars with touches of spice cake and Ceylon tea. The palate has soft acidity and bags of opulent, honey-laced stone fruit, finishing long and spicy. (LPB)

Classic Sauternes, treading the fine line between sweetness and elegance. Initially, it seems to be dominated by the botrytis, but then sweet fruits also show, with ripe yellow fruits, honey and almonds, touched with citrus. As it develops, the wine will become richer and more intense. (RV)

This wine has a sumptuous nose, packed with rich stone- fruit aromas and a hint of honey. It’s sleek and textured, fresh and silky, not excessively sweet, and has a welcome elegance rather than power. It seemed a touch lean a few years ago, but has put on a bit of weight and opulence. Long. (SB)

I have a checkered past with sticky wines. They are not generally not my thing, like most sweets. Give me a baguette and cheese, instead. Or a nice Chablis. Except in this case. This nicely aged Sauternes is plush but, has background acidity to, well, back it up. Pineapple, blood orange, honeycomb and apricot. All in one! Super delicious and it will also age for years to come.
