Totally open now with chocolate, berry and spice character. Full, soft and velvety. Coffee and chocolate with meat and berry. Decadent.

The 2001 Domaine de Chevalier has a more flattering bouquet compared to the 2000, featuring gorgeous, very pure black cherry, blueberry and mint aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with similar tannic structure to the 2000, firm and maybe a little austere, displaying fine grip but, atypically for this estate, quite recalcitrant at the moment, so afford it more time in the cellar. Deep ruby/purple-colored with classic aromas of smoke, earth, black cherries, and creme de cassis, this elegant, layered 2001 possesses outstanding depth and richness as well as impeccable finesse, well-integrated wood, and a long, concentrated finish. (RP)
