Good medium red. Aromas of roasted plum, raspberry and redcurrant, plus a whiff of mocha. Juicy, bright and vinous, with urgent currant and raspberry flavors showing lovely elegance and impressive inner-mouth energy. Finishes very ripe and vibrant, with superb lift. (ST)

A vintage where they finished harvest at the end of September, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape shows a cooler climate-like profile in its olive, garrigue, darker fruits, spice and underbrush-driven aromas and flavors. Pretty, balanced, medium to full-bodied and with the hallmark silkiness of the estate, it's another fully mature, elegant Chateauneuf du Pape to enjoy anytime over the coming 4-5 years. (JD)

Notes

Marcoux produces wine from 40- to 60-year-old vines for their regular cuvée. The grapes are grown organically, and biodynamic techniques are used in the vineyard and cellar. The wine receives no fining, filtration, or destemming. No new oak is employed but rather tank, foudres, and neutral barrels are used. *Biodynamic*
