A stunning Chardonnay from the ‘ifkyk’ X Novo site in the Eola-Amity Hills. X Novo is intentionally diverse 15 clones of Pinot Noir and 20 clones of Chardonnay are intertwined and planted with serious density in this tiny site. Reductive chipped flint notes give way to Hawthorne, briny oyster shell elements, and lemon oil aromas. The palate is well composed—gorgeous layers of smoked citrus grilled ripe pineapple flesh, savoury, and thirst-slaking lemon verbena. A mineral spine looks down on it all. Simply gorgeous.

The 2022 Chardonnay X Novo Vineyard pours a bright medium yellow-green hue, and in this vintage, it’s elegant and harmonious, with a ripe perfume of sweet flowers, lilac, candied lemon, and pristine ripe pear fruit. Medium-bodied, it fills out the palate with a more rounded feel and has a lovely texture, just a hint of citrus oils, a delicate almondine, clean feel, and a lovely, long finish with a pretty, delicately toasted feel. Its viscosity frames the wine beautifully, and I know there's high acidity, but it feels so appealing.

Rapidly becoming one of the Willamette Valley's iconic vineyards, X Novo delivers once again. It begins with an undeniable aromatic blend of chamomile tea, buttered popcorn, and tart lemon curd. Blazing acidity then lights up the wine's flavors of lemon grass, Thai basil and grilled pineapple. Pair this wine with celebrations, such as weddings, mid-term elections and the last kid out of the house. (MA)

Focused and precise, with aromas of grapefruit zest, lemon oil, toasted nuts, flint and white flowers. The palate is tightly wound with high-energy acidity, textural mouthfeel and a slightly phenolic finish. Well balanced with nice purity.

Here’s a wine that’s up there with the very best of the vintage and ready to go toe-to-toe with the best white Burgundies out there. From a small vineyard in Eola-Amity, X Novo is a high-density planting of thoroughly diverse mixed clones (up to 20 different Chardonnay selections). This wine has everything turned up to 11. The flinty reduction, powdery white florals, racy electric acidity, penetrating minerality, tangy, mouthwatering citrus, preserved lemon, tangerine peel, salted limes, nutty savory oak, plus linear tension and reverberating energy. This demands proper treatment—decant, use your best stemware, poach a halibut… or fresh crab? The best of the best. Very limited.
